To safely jump-start another vehicle, always wear heavy gloves and a pair of safety glasses. Bring the vehicles nose-to-nose; now you can turn the engine off as well as the lights on the car. Open the car hoods, put on your glasses and gloves, and grab your car battery jumper cables.
The cables have four ends, two red positives, and two black negatives. Red cables go to the positive clamp on the live battery, followed by the positive on the bad battery. The black cables clamp onto the negative side of your good battery, with the last black cable attaching to any metal surface on the car that is to be jumped - in order to eliminate any chance of a spark. Now it is fine to start the car, leave it running, then after a few minutes try and start the other car.
Take some time to visit Jim Falk Lincoln of Maui, so our crew can do a diagnostic on the charging system and replace the battery if needed.
