All you need to safely and accurately test the car battery strength in your vehicle is a voltmeter, gloves, and safety eye-wear. Put on your glasses and gloves before getting near the car battery. With the car engine off, locate both terminals on the car battery.
First, place the voltmeter red cable, positive, to the plus side, positive, on the car battery.
Next, place the voltmeter black cable, negative, to the minus side, negative, on battery.
Power on the voltmeter once both cables are securely attached to the battery.
If the reading is 12.4 or better, the battery is still in great shape.
When the reading on the voltmeter is 12.2 or falling, then you have to become concerned because at this point it appears that the battery can't hold a charge. If you are unsure, bring the car to Jim Falk Lincoln of Maui so we can test the battery and check the charging system for any issues.
