The tread on vehicular tires are what keep them on the road. They also keep water from interfering with driving straight. Without treat, tires would be virtually useless outside of providing a protective barrier from the inner workings of tires, like brake pads and axels.
How do you know when it’s time to replace tires?
There’s an old, outdated trick that states if, once a penny is inserted into tire treads, if the tread doesn’t reach Abraham Lincoln’s hair, it’s time to replace the tire. However, this is actually far too late. You should aim to replace it if, once a quarter is placed in the treads, it doesn’t cover up the former president’s head. These tools indicate tread is shorter than 1/16 and 1/8 inches long, whereas, when new, it’s five and two-and-a-half times longer, at 10/32nd inches long.
If you don’t want to bother replacing your vehicle’s tires, let us professionals at Jim Falk Lincoln of Maui handle it for you.
